Each type has different reach, engagement, and best practices.
Instagram Feed Posts
Feed post best practices: Use 4:5 aspect ratio (1080x1350) for maximum screen space, First line of caption is critical (shows in feed), Use 20-30 hashtags in first comment, Post 3-5 times per week consistently, Optimal posting times: 11am-1pm, 7-9pm local time. Feed posts have longer lifespan than Stories/Reels.

Instagram Reels
Reels are Instagram's fastest-growing format: Max duration: 90 seconds, Vertical format: 9:16 (1080x1920), Use trending audio for discovery, Hook viewers in first 3 seconds, Include captions (most watch on mute), Post 4-7 Reels per week for maximum reach. Reels get 2-3x reach compared to feed posts.

Repurpose TikTok content as Reels, but remove TikTok watermark (reduces reach on Instagram).
Carousel Posts
Carousels drive highest engagement: 2-10 slides (sweet spot: 5-7), Mix images and videos, Tell a story across slides, Use consistent design template, Include clear CTA on last slide, Carousel posts get saved more (algorithm boost). Use for: Tutorials, Tips, Before/After, Product showcases.
